Kanika’s Pov:
Oh god, my heart is thumping in joy, and fear.
Fear; that bhai will catch me and delete that photo. Joy’ because finally they both are in love. As we come back home, I immediately run towards my room and lock it securely, as in case he will come here and snatch my phone.
The cell phone is continuously buzzing with notification, of the group. I knew it that everyone will be super shocked and happy at the same time.
Sanju Bhabhi: Oh MY MY MY… what is this happening.
our dramatic one.
Rehana Di: Guysss.. what the helllllll.
Didi must be in her classes when she sees this. I was giggling like a mad, but the most beautiful thing is the way they both clinging each other. The photo itself says that they both are lost somewhere.
Rehan jiju: Superb, I knew it.
Yug: Wait what, now Tarun is not only my sala, but at the same time jiju too. Maze hi aagye.
****AHH, not again. Yuggg.
ME: maine na muh tod de na tumhra Yug Jaiswal.
(I will break your face, Yug Jaiswal.)
Sometimes he irritates me a lot, I know that he is only flirting with me, and also, I don't want to fall for him, he is literally a playboy. Not my time. Absolutely not my type.
But the way he looks at me, the way he treats me, the way he said, he will wait. Oh, common this is only a word, “Wait”. But still does something in my stomach I use to find excuses to message him, to talk to him. I love when he talks to me and I just don’t need to filter my words when I am talking with him. Whenever he is with me, I feel like, safe, secure and me.
In these 6 months we both became a good… friends. But still when he flirts with me or teases me. I want to listen more. And like a wave of harsh reality hit me, that he never dates or love. He not even serious about his future. How am I supposed to be with him.
Sometimes I pray to the Almighty that, please change him, Change him in the best way. They way my mind except, the way my family accept and the way he will shine.
Day went lazy, with reading and posting on Instagram about reading also making an aesthetic background for the photos.
Then my phone buzz with incoming call.
“Hello” without looking, who is calling me I pick up.
“Hey, princess” A cheerful manly voice echoed in my ears. His voice really has some magic, when we meet first time his voice also did this magic in my whole body. “Hello?” he checked.
“Hm, yeah” I clear my throat to compose myself.
“Kaha ho madam, I am waiting for you at the LOC cafe” he stated. Why is he waiting for me? I totally forget but immediately my lazy mind reply. I called him for my laptop.
“Oh, yes yes, I am coming in 15 min.”
“Jo Hukum, Rajkumari Shahib” my face flushed at his words, and a shy smile spread across my face.
I Fastly take a quick shower, and slip into yellow flora pattern frock, with Dimond earing and my usual pended. I apply my sunscreen and kajal. And done.
Oh, I forget bindi. I pick my bag and put laptop in it.
I came down and called Mumma.
“Kaha ja rahi hai, aur kon kon hai” my exited mood gets off in seconds as the words slips from her mouth. I am not a kid anymore.
(Where are you going, and who all are there?)
“Mom, I know what I am doing, please I am mature now.” I chided.
“Beta, I believe in you, but not believe the outside world. You already knew, kesi duniya hai aaj kal ki” Fine she is also right and parents always right, but the thing is I can’t say that I am going to meet Yug, not now at least. Bhai is also home today.
“Mumma, I know, you are concern but believe me I am safe. Trust me. Meri location on Hai” I assure her, my mom is little fuss about their kids, specially about me. I her Gudiya after all. She is about to say something, but I cut her “jaldi aajoungi pakka”,
She bid me bye with warm smile.
⋇⋆✦⋆⋇
The cafe is buzzed with the usual hustle and bustle with the customers, waiters. I am scanning the hall for him, and there in the quietest corner window seat, he was sitting there and engross in his laptop with his screen glasses on, he looks more handsome in his glasses, his olive t-shirt is screaming his classiness with the casual jeans’ pants, he is looking like he just jumps out of some photoshoot.
If there was a usual day, he will choose middle seats for all our friends. But right now, he is sitting there is a corner because once I mention about sitting in a corner gives you another level of peace especially when you are surrounded with crowd.
He looks up like he sensed my presence and stand with his signature boxy grin. But today his smile is little serious and softness which is rare. I take a deliberate step and sit down with him. This corner seat really provides peace. But it's feels awkward too, being sitting in corner with him alone. Ughh
Before we start our conversation a waiter approach to us and put two cups of chai. I look at him with questioning gaze, and he just shrug off like it's so common.
“Here is the laptop” I extend my laptop towards him. He put his cup down very graceful and pulled my laptop towards him.
He did something in it and open some html pages…. Which have barely any word only slashes, hashtag and less than greater than symbol. His fingers are dancing on the keyboard like he is made for this.
Absentmindedly I asked him “That much you love coding”
He arches his brow and looks at me, “Yes very much” a smile spared on his face. Then again, he starts working. Then, he asked “have you download some files form any unknown site?” I push mind to think about.
“Yeah, a book form website, but I don't the name of site” I told him honestly.
I never need to make up words in front of him. The words flows automatically with him, like my mind needs to talk to him.
“hmm” he breathed. “You are not doing this again. Okay” he declared. His voice filled with strange authority. I just nod at his words.
We sit another 10 min in silence. Till then he is repairing my laptop. And I am munching the pasta he ordered for me. He told me that some files are corrupt and the anti-virus is also not working. So, he also setting that too.
“You said that you want to tell something”
“Hmm” his eyes flash some emotion. After good 2 minutes of silence, he spoke “I am going to Mauritius.” As the words slip from his mouth, I am Suddenly frozen on my place my palms are getting cold. And in the busiest cafe feels like still and quiet.
His eyes searching something in my expression like he is waiting for me to say, ‘don’t leave’. But I immediately compose my face expression and hide my real emotions at the corner of my heart. But he is testing my heart like how much space there have because I am too impatient person.
“Nice. Girlfriend se milne” I asked him. “Because I heard that Yug Jaiswal have girlfriends in every country’s state” fine if my words look like jealous.
His face expression changed. From curiosity to something dark. Which I have to understand before it's too late.
“You think this is about Girlfriend.” He whispered to me and then lean on his chair. His hands ran through his hairs, seems like he controlling himself. His breathing is sharp clearly audible. “Kanika really?” He scoffs and looks at the outside.
“I just heard” I said softly.
Looks like my words work on him, his furry subsides little. He looks at into my eyes and say “Never, I never made girlfriends anywhere. All girls came towards me for some work like to jealous someone or just for saying that they have boyfriend. But I never ever look at them like I look at you.” His words hitting like a tidal wave. I know that he never be serious about love life. But never knew that he looks at me like he never did to anyone.
“I never see someone right in front of me, where you are sitting. I never allowed any girl to speak anything about me. I never needed some girl like needed you.”
Does he just confess. Is this a confession about his love?
“Now whatever you understand. I Love you. I fucking Love you Kanika Gautam.” What did he said. His words making my knees jelly and my heart race faster. My heart is beating like it will come out any time.
Our eyes are still locked. Just then I realized that he said I love you to me.
I avert my gaze and start staring this empty cup on my table.
We both are sat silently. Don't know how many minutes passed. Then he broke the silence. “Kanika, you take your time to think. I am not forcing you but please don't be silent. We can be friends like earlier I will flirt with you like always and you can hit me tease me get angry on me.” his gentle voice calms my nerves, little bit. But still, he always confessed his feeling.
“Which project?” I divert the topic.
“Huh?”
“Which project are there in Mauritius?” I look at him, but he turns his face other side, like he is avoiding my question. “Some hydrogen” some hydrogen wow.
“Tumhe pata bhi hai tum vaha kyun ka rahe ho” irritation clearly visible; in my tone.
(Do you even know why you are going there?)
“han nahi pata” he answers me annoyed. “kuch nahi pata mujhe aur mujhe bataate bhi nahi hai” I am stun by his answer he is the heir of the company, and he don’t even know about his own company’s projects.
(“Yes, I don't know, I don't know anything, and no one tells me either)
“Are you kidding me, you are the sole heir of the company after your father’s death.” I rebuke.
“Yes, but that bastard Jaiswal never involves me, never. And even I go to office, he sends me back.” the annoyance is clear in his eyes. I know after his father’s death the company is facing losses. It's been 10 years.
“Then go and check, you don’t know about the project then I am sure that you also don’t know about the where it’s going to plant. Right?” I asked. He nodded and this makes me angrier. Can’t he snatch his right. “Tum na sirf bolte ho, ki jo tumhe chiye vo tum le kar rehat ho, tumhe ye company chiye hi nahi. Becasue you never invest your time there. And you don’t know where the machine will plant, what if they are harming nature. What if they are planting somewhere, where poor people live.” he listens to me carefully, but the anger subside little and convert into sadness and guilt. Good for him.
“You are right, I never try to figure out anything regarding projects.” his voice is low. “But I want to work for my father’s company, believe me”
“Rubbish. If it had to be done, you had all the rights regarding the company, you wouldn't be wandering around like these vagabonds." My irritation is on peak, if he works then no one will look at him like he is of no use. I know what people talk about him, I had attended so many parties where people discuss his bad habits, and his unemployment. His loafer personality “Excuses mat do Yug, tumhare potential ko kaam karne do, don’t be like this. Please” I whisper last part, because I don’t know why this hurt when people talk bad about him.
He is just listening to me, quietly. But there is a commitment in his eyes. Please God gives this mindless little mind.
As the moment came when we both have to bid bye, my heart felt a pang. Heartbeat is like roller-coaster, and the urge to pull him into embrace for the last time before he goes.
He drops in to the home. The whirlwind of emotions does not allow me to form a single sentence to say bye.
“Hm, ok then bye, take care and safe journey.” I said in one breath and move towards the entrance gate. He never goes inside this metal gate, because of bhai.
As I take a step forward, he grabs my wrist, I turn back to see some flirty smile, but all I witness is tears in his eyes. And a soft simile unlike her boxer smile. “Thank you.” his voice just above whisper. Before I could say anything, he hugged me.
He hugged me.
Tightly.
His hands around my shoulder, his face is buried into my neck.
We are close.
We are close to each other
Not just close we are pasted to each other, his grip getting tighter only by the passing time. Like if he loosens his grip and I disappear. “I Love you.” only thing I hear is this, and my mind is out of control, my hands automatically held up and hug him, clench his T-shirt firmly. But in another second realization hit me, what I am doing, my parents trust me, they believe me, and here I am betraying them.
I left him. He sensed my tension and leave me. Then climb up to his bike, sparing one last look at me like he wants to save this moment in his mind and smile at me. I am still looking at the direction where his bike disappears.
This is not happing again.
Never.
Silently I sold myself for being this much reckless for love.

Sanjana’s Pov:
“Oh god Dadi, how many times I tell you put all the Bills at the one place.” from past 30 min. I am searching for the electricity bill, which my hot Dadi put somewhere and now forget.
“Beta, maine to table par rakha tha.” her soft voice came to my ears.
(” I had kept it on the table.”)
“Par yaha nhi hai dadi.” I chided lightly because she always put here and there everything and then forget. “Aapne dava li ya nahi” I asked her, not wanting to answer the next question which will defiantly come.
(“But grandmother is not here.” “Have you taken the medicine or not?”)
“Last date kya hai bill ki” told you, I don’t want to answer her. At least not now.
(What is the last date of the bill?)
“Huh, That’s my matter, na. You have your medicine or not” I again tried.
“Maine jo pucha uska jawab de!” she said bit irritate.
(“Answer what I asked!”)
Today.
And I don’t know how to pay, because the bill must be above 2000.
And dadi, I don’t have 1000 in my account.
This I can’t say to her.
“Mill gaya” she exclaimed, while looking at the side drawer. I run towards her, before she can see the date. But today is not my day. Her expression changed in instant. Looking all worried She is looking at me, and I snatch the stupid piece of paper from her hands.
“Ye.. to aaj ki date hai” Oh my dadi.
(“This… is today's date”)
“Han to, I am going to pay.” I said to her, in all confidence.
“But how” she inquires.
I don’t know too.
“From Money, dadi aap bhudi ho rhai hooo” I tried to ease the tension in the air. “oh, god, dadi, BP ke sath Alzheimer bhi ho gaya. ab mera kya hoga, meri shaddi me aap rasm bhul gai too” I wear a horror expression. On which her face made a scowl.
(“From money, grandma, you are getting old oh, God, grandma, along with BP you also have Alzheimer’s. Now what will happen to me, you forgot the ritual in my wedding too”)
Cute.
And good for me. “Nalayak” she mummer and left for the kitchen. While I grab my phone and bag, for going to pay this bill.

It's true, when people say, “oh they lost their parents. How will they survive, this is going to be so hard for them. Oh bechari, bacchi to hai. Dekho kya ho gaya.”
But that time you are, all confident and strong like you can do everything and live a normal life. But the reality is, you are far from the ‘normal’ life. This is so hard to live. Yes, so hard that your only option left is either begging or suicide. People who have the fear of humiliation only option left is suicide. Now I can understand how my Dadi, made up everything at that time. But now I don’t want to be burden on her.
My education fee is Nill, because of the scholarship.
But there is more for this stomach. Our living rent, our electricity bill.
I still remember when it was my 2nd semester and my Dadi can’t pay the electricity bill; my house is out of electricity for 5 days.
Karan already gives me a lot, but all the amount is deposit in loan. My father had a loan on plot, I told Dadi to sell that plot, but she refused to do that, because she wants to gift that stupid piece of land on my weeding.
“50 rupees” Auto bhaiya called me and I came back to reality.
Right now, I was standing in the middle of old Delhi market, Sarafa market.
Here every shop is of old age jewelers. My last option left, after Government put taxes on the Future and Option trading, my only short time source gets snatched. Now they want tax from this too. For them, toll tax, road tax, corporate tax, income tax, entertainment tax, GST, service tax, customs duty, all of these were less, but now they have also imposed tax on the stock market. That too on trading.
I enter in the shop and take out the box from my bag, this is the only thing my Dadi gave me to wear, small earring. It's my Mumma’s earring. I extend my hands towards the uncle who is sitting on the corner.
“I want to pawn this.” they are so beautiful small yet have thin design on it, just like old Rajputi style.
“It's invoice.” he demanded. While his keen eyes checking every corner of the earring. I quickly take out the invoice.
“Arey, this was purchased from here” he smiles at me. I reciprocate but the smile does nothing to my mood. After all this is very sad for a daughter to lien her mother’s earring.
I am sorry Mumma. I promise I will take them back.
“How much will you gave from the toady’s price uncle.” I asked him.
“As per toady’s market price its. … total” he said and calculating the amount on his old calculator may be same as the age of the shop. “3 lakh.” he answered.
“Ok.” I mummer softly and he start counting the notes. And handed to me.
“Naam” he asked for his entry in his book. “yahi likh du, kya likh hai” he asked while checking on the name of the invoice. “Surendra Arora”
“Nahi nhai” I quickly answer, my father was strongly opposed to pawning goods. “Sanjana Grover, likhiye” I said.
“OK ji, kab tak le jaogi vapas” he asked. And I am blank, kab tak. I don’t know when the market goes up and when any firm approve my biodata. “Acha chlao I saal ka samay de ta hu” like he sensed my inner thoughts he offers me. “Vese ache ghar se lagti ho, kya jaruart aa gai.” his words made me smile, Acha ghar.
“Kuch nhai uncle, bas aaj electricity bill ki last date hai.” I answered that, my voice is breaking. With a deep breath, I continue. “Meri mummy mujhe ye de kar gai thi, aur aaj unhi ki nishani ko girvi rakh kar ja rahi hu” He listens to me very carefully.
("Nothing uncle, it's just that today is the last date for the electricity bill." "My mother had given this to me, and today I am going, pawning her keepsake.”)
“ghar par koi bhi nahi hai” he asked me, now his voice tone is changed, this is the only thing I hate in my like they all pity on you.
(There is no one at home)
“hai na dadi hai par vo kab tak karengi. Thank you Uncle aap se baat kar ke acha laga” I finished my sentence and get out from his shop.
("Yes, Grandma is there, but how long will she manage? Thank you, Uncle, it was nice talking to you.”)
People think we are the helpless. Indeed, we are, and we know that, please stop showing that we are helpless. Don’t show your sympathy, empathy, sorrow or any kind of emotions which will affect our mental health.
I don’t need anyone's help. I can do it myself, anyhow.

Karan’s Pov:
Sometimes life plays such strange games, you think of something and something else happens.
Just like this, I never thought that I will work in any company. And that too with my Comrade. Also never thought that Sanjana will make-up that easily.
It feels like just yesterday when I saw her, when she used to come to my house, and she just motivated me to fill the NDA form. I chuckle at my thoughts. When Tarun voice interrupt.
“Pagal ho gaya hai kya, aese kyun has raha hai”
(“Have you gone mad, why are you laughing like this”)
“Saale pagal to jab hi ho gaya tha jab vo 3 saal pehle mili thi” I extend my arms in air and leaned back at the chair. A stupide grin pasted on my face. And he is glaring at me.
("I only went crazy when I met her 3 years ago”)
“Saale khud to ghar ja kar kiss karke aya hai aur mujhe yaad bhi nahi karne de raha. What was she doing right now, by the way? Thinking about me or imagining me in her books.” I asked him.
Sill cold stare and annoyed scowl.
His phone buzzed
“Hm, oh.” his facial expression changed in seconds. “I am going there.” with that he hangs up.
I gave him questionable look. “Arey yaar vo east side me workers ne strick kar di” he answered my unasked question.
(“Hey man, the workers have gone on strike on the east side.”)
“Then let's go, my work is already done.” I suggest him.
⋇⋆✦⋆⋇
“Listen, listen please.” Tarun shouting at the crowd, they all are saying together, all chaos. All of them are so stubborn.
The computer making machines which make some noise is silent now, all men work there, including guard also in the crowd they have made.
“Listen we understand your problems, but this is not in our hands to increase your salary.” Tarun finally able to calm them. After so many attempts.
He is really patience.
Mai to abhi tak kissi na kissi ko goli mar de ta.
That is why you are standing here, and you friend will become CEO in next 2 years.
I hate this subconscious mind of mine.
“But I assure you that your appeal will go to the salary and HR department. And I own self present this issue at the general meeting, I assure you. Look you all are the backbone of this Anand Tech. We are nothing without you guys, but you all have to maintain the decorum of the company too.” he can be good Netaji.
As his speech finish, I whisper in his ears. “Chod yaar ye company Neta banja, paisa kamana nahi chapna.” he chuckles at my words.
(“Forget this company, man, become a politician, money is not earned, it's printed.”)
Our car is running at the road. But came in halt at the near government department. There was a huge crowd of people there.
Again crowd, I hate this.
I was looking at the crowd; their muffed voices have come inside the care.
“What is happing here.” Tarun asked.
“Sir may be something happen. Aese bhi sir, sarkari kaam hai, chote logo ki nahi suni jati vaha” driver said, we both exchange our gaze. I step out the care only to witness the familiar sharp voice.
(“Sir, maybe something happened. You see, sir, it's government work, the voices of poor people are not heard there.”)
“This voice.” Tarun immediately looks at me, his eyes wide in the horror of happing something.
My Herat hung low, at hearing her voice. That too in so much pain.
“Aap aese kese bol sakte hai ki pichle mahine ka bill pay nahi kiya, meri dadi khud aai thi. Aurr aap logo ki book mai entery nahi hai to hum kya kare, aaj kal sab digital hai to abhi bhi kyun baba adam ke jame jesa kaam kar rahe ho.” she shouted at man.
(“How can you say that the bill for last month was not paid, my grandmother herself had come. And if there is no entry in your book, then what should we do; nowadays everything is digital, so why are you still working like Adam's time?”)
“han han sahi keh rahi hai ye ladki. mere ghar ke bhi bijali kaat di” an old man supported her.
(“Yes yes, this girl is saying correctly. The electricity at my house was also cut off.”)
“Teri itni himat, hame sikyegi” one of the government offices pushed her.
(“You have so much courage, will you teach us?”)
In next second she is secure in my arms, her soft and small body is perfectly secure in mine.
Sanjana’s eyes widen at the sheer shock and fear.
Fear, that this mother fucker pushes her.
Shock, that she never expects me here.
But what if I was not here. What will he do to her?
Slap her?
Fuck. My muscle taunt at the thought.
“Tum thik ho” I asked softly as I can.
(Are you okay?)
She blinks her eyes.
“How dare you.” I growl at that fucker. And without waiting for his answer, I punch his shitty face.
“HOW DARE YOU, TO PUSH HER”. I shouted and continually punching his face.
The scene when he pushed her is playing in loop.
“HOW” punch “DARE” punch “YOU” punch. “SHE IS MY WIFE.” I shouted like I was not in the city but at the war.
Her soft hands pulling me back, but I will not leave him alive. “Tarun stops him” she shouted on Tarun. “Karan please look, I am safe and secure, please stop vo mar jayega” is she saying to me? Yes. But will I listen to her at this moment after witnessing her in such danger?
So Fucking NO.
“Karan ruk ja, people making videos. Stop this, or the Midea will target Sanjana” Tarun mummer. And just in an instant I stop but not before Punch him one last time.
I immediately grab Sanjana’s hand and march toward the car.
“You practically killed him.” her voice reaches my ears.
“As I Care” I snap.
Hell. I want to beat the shit out him. I want to shoot him. My breath is not normal. Its heavy, too heavy.
The scene of her, falling. The way her voice reflecting pain. All this making me so reckless and angry.
“Breath” her calm voice work like a balm. “Breath Karan. relax.” She mummer softly. Tarun is sitting on the passenger seat I and Sanjana at back. Her hands rubbing my chest, while I control my breath. My head leaned back and then side to side. Basically, turn all 360 degrees.
This anger is only Boling up.
She is in Danger, and I am not with her. This mere thought makes me, mad.
“Mai usse goli mar dun ga”
(I will shoot him)
I cup her face in my hands and cares with pad of my thumb. “You okay na” I breathed.
“Yes.” she gave me an assured nod.
“What was going on Sanjana?” Tarun asked, irritation and concern, reflecting in his voice.
“I came here to pay the electricity bill, when he told me, that my past months bill is still pending. But maine dadi ko kud beja tha.” she explains. “Then I protest, but they said ki book me entry nahi hai.”
As soon she finished, Tarun immediately called someone. “Come with your team” he ordered at other side and provide them the address.
“You simply called us.” I said to her as she puts her head on my shoulder.
“Arey sab thik tha, unhone age badhya.” she reasoned I kissed the top of her head.
Soon some government officer came along his team. And this media tagged free.
They shake hands with Tarun and start their work. The whole team checked the books and the past months bills of her not her but all of them. The audit went for a while.
We got to know that this department doing some kind of fraud. They take dual amount on the name of pending bills, and also the online transition is held on their own account.
This is system.
My eyes are stuck at Sanjana, when she was busy in talking.
I will never leave her alone.
Never.
“Sanjana” I called her. As soon as she stands in front of me. I Hugged her. And take a deep breath. Like finally I got some oxygen. My heart still thumping like a drum.
This tight embrace giving some peace to my pulse.
“I am Scared.” I confessed.
“I know” she mummer in my chest.
